Athens 2002: Twenty Years since the Signing of the Montego Bay Convention (1982) on the Law of the Sea - Applications and Developments in cooperation with the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations.

Chios 2002: The Marine Environment and Sustainable Development after Johannesburg: Legal and Political Aspects in cooperation with the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport of the University of the Aegean and the Chios Bar Association.

Rhodes 2002: The Environment after the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in cooperation with the European Centre for Environmental Research and Training of Panteion University and the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations.

Chios 2003: Shipping Company – Contemporary Issues in cooperation with the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport of the University of the Aegean.

Rhodes 2003: Time before and Time after – Unresolved Issues and New Challenges to the Law of the Sea in cooperation with the Hellenic branch of the International Law Association.

Rhodes 2005: International Symposium in memory of Theodoros Halkiopoulos, on the topic: "The New Law of the Sea and Greece's Contribution to its Formation - the Work of the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea - Theodoros Halkiopoulos' Decisive Contribution," in cooperation with the "Association Internationale du Droit de la Mer," under the auspices of the "Emmanuel Christ. Chios 2007: Environment and Maritime Transport in Search of a Sustainable Approach - Planning and Implementation of Intervention in Maritime Transport and Marine Environmental Protection in the EU, the Mediterranean Region, and Southeast Europe in cooperation with the European Centre for Environmental Research and Training of Panteion University, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, Aegean and Island Policy, and the Office of the European Parliament in Greece.

Anavyssos 2010: Aegean and South-Eastern Mediterranean. Contemporary Challenges and Prospects for Exploiting Submarine Energy Natural Resources, in cooperation with the European Centre for Environmental Research and Training of Panteion University, the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, and the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations.

Rhodes 2021: Peaceful Settlement of Disputes in the Oceans in the 21st Century (international online conference) with the participation, among others, of the President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Albert Hoffmann, the Vice President, Tomas Heidar, and Tribunal Judges Tullio Treves, Rudiger Wolfrum, Jin-Hyun Paik, as well as former Judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Bruno Simma.

Rhodes 2022: Cooperation en Mediterranee et Droit de la Mer (French-speaking international online conference) with the participation, among others, of Judges of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Ida Caracciollo and Tullio Treves.

Athens 2024: ROK-Greece Experts Meeting on Delimitation in the Law of the Sea in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of South Korea.

 

Hellenic-Cypriot Expert Meetings on the Law of the Sea and Maritime Law

 

The Institute took the initiative and was responsible for organizing five expert meetings on the Law of the Sea and Maritime Law. In these meetings, which were held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, the experts had the opportunity to discuss all current issues of common interest for the two countries. To date, the following "Meetings" have been held:

ALFA - Cooperation of university institutions from Europe and Latin America: Rhodes - Buenos Aires 1997.

 

The program was organized under the responsibility and supervision of the Institute and focused on the study of environmental protection law at a regional level (Regional Integration for the Environment). The following universities participated in the program: Universidade Estadual Paulista (Brazil), Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Universidat de Valencia (Spain), Université de Limoges (France), Università degli Studi di Milano, and Università degli Studi di Roma (Italy).

Research

Under the auspices of the Institute and the scientific supervision of Professor Ch. Rozakis, a research project was planned and executed on the topic: "The Application of the New Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982) in the Greek Legal Order and the International and European Framework of Marine Environmental Protection." The research was funded by the Ministry of the Aegean, and its results have been published by the I. Sideris publishing house (2004).
